Bukdike

The Bukdike, written in dutch as ‘Bukdijk’, on Marken is a relic of the plans to reclaim the ‘Markerwaard’. The construction of the dike started in 1942 but came not further than 1.7 km. Actually it is a senseless dike, but meaningless for nature lovers, certainly not! Nature can take its course without any input from humans. Birds find their breeding ground here, and there is a huge variety of plants growing. Moreover, it is a special experience to walk on this dike with on the left the ‘Gouwzee’ and on the right the ‘Markermeer’. A dike, which ends in nothingness.
